
Bio
Olusegun Emmanuel Atoyebi was born in Lagos, Nigeria. He attended Yaba college of technology in Lagos Nigeria, holds a certificate in Multimedia institute (MTI) Surulere in Lagos, holds a diploma certificate in Music production, and also a B.sc certificate in music.
To add more value to himself he also attended many music and masterclasses in which he also possessed certificate for that.
´Segun` as he is fondly called grew up in Lagos, Nigeria. He began to display the heart for music at an early age, started from learning how to play the drums, then to percussion in Junior church to learning a trumpet which he worked with many brigade bands for few years. His love for saxophone picked up when he heard the sound because saxophone wasn't a common instrument in the '80s in Nigeria and he decided to switch to saxophone.
Segun is a highly organized forward-thinking problem solver with a 19+ year of experience in teaching, production and performing arts. His proactive nature allows him to excel at projects requiring accountability, efficiency, order and attention to details. Through his experience as a saxophonist, a music producer and a teacher of music, he had acquired strong leadership and interpersonal skills, resulting in a proven ability to work well both within a team as well as independently.
His sound has more fire and intensity than most of his peers, and this made him worked with so many artists both locally and internationally. He worked professionally and shared the same stage with the known top artist, the likes of the Grammy award winner Kirk Whalum, Burna boy, Gerald Albright, Najee, Jos Stone, Kurt Carr, Roy Hargrove, Fourplay, Courtney Pine, Huge Masekela, Fletch Wiley, Nathaniel Bassey, Bez, Lagbaja, Cobhams Asuquo, Asa, Waje, Adekunle Gold, Yinka Davis, Onyeka Onwenu, Omawunmi, Timi Dakolo, Sir Shina Peters, Bright Chimezie, to mention but few.
He also worked with so many bands like The Invisible Fusion Jazz band(UK), Sweet Sound band, Lagos Jazz series band, SOIN Jazz band, Ade Bantu band, Salt of the Earth band, Ebony band, G-Note Band, etc. He also formed a trio band called Imole Africa, in which they have performed in so many Jazz and music festivals in Nigeria.
Segun Atoyebi had taught beginners, intermediate and professional in saxophone and also facilitate in so many masterclasses and Jazz music academy. He volunteered to teach the passionate music student on a bi-weekly basis and this had earned him great respect in the society.
He had performed in notable musical events and Church programs like the World Music Day, Lagos International Jazz Festival, Wafbec2017, cop17/cmp7 Durban South Africa, Jazz hole, Hip hop award, International Jazz day, Runway International Jazz Concert, Muson Jazz Festival, Inspiro Jazz, Hp partnership conference Lagos 2008, Gospel Jazz festival in Ghana, Bayelsa Jazz festival, etc.
He had recorded many musical albums. He did most of the horns in Nathaniel Bassey’s songs, popular ‘IYAWO MI’ by Timi Dakolo, ‘PLAY NA PLAY’ ft. Angelique Kidjo by Omawunmi, ‘ARIYA’ by Gbenga Adenuga, ‘SOBOLATION’ by Lagbaja, Adekunle Gold, and so many more.
He also produced so many musical albums, singles, covers, etc, he did a cover of ´What a beautiful name´, (gospel song originally owned by Hill song), he also released a single titled ´Ope´ which circulated the whole radio station in Nigeria. His first debut album was released on 20th March 2016 titled´HYMNS FROM ABOVE´ ( a smooth jazz album).
He was awarded the Most Outstanding saxophonist of the year in 2014 by Precise&Groovy and he is the only endorser of Legere reeds(Canada) and Morgan mouthpiece(USA) in the whole Africa.
